HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SOLID GOLD JEWELLERY

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SOLID GOLD JEWELLERY

Solid gold jewellery is designed to be worn and loved for a lifetime. Over time, your pieces will naturally develop small marks and a soft patina – signs of a life well lived. With a little care, you can keep your jewellery looking its best for years to come. Cleaning Your Jewellery CLEANING STONES For an easy cleaning routine, we recommend using the Dr Diamond Jewellery Cleaning Range, available at RUUSK. You can shop Dr Diamond here. Alternatively, for regular at-home cleaning, soak your jewellery in warm water with a small amount of mild dish soap for 10–15 minutes. Gently brush away any build-up with a extra soft toothbrush before rinsing and drying thoroughly with a lint-free cloth. In addition to at-home care, we recommend having your jewellery professionally cleaned and inspected every 12–24 months. This allows a jeweller to thoroughly clean hard-to-reach areas, check the security of gemstones and settings, and identify any wear before it becomes an issue. Regular maintenance helps ensure your pieces remain beautiful and secure for years to come. CLEANING GOLD  Over time, your jewellery may develop surface marks from daily wear. This is completely normal and part of the character of solid gold. Each RUUSK piece comes with a polishing cloth which can be used to buff away surface marks and can be used regularly on yellow gold, rose gold and platinum (we do not advise self-polishing for white gold). How to Store Your Pieces When not being worn, store your jewellery in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratching. We recommend keeping pieces separate, particularly diamond rings and bracelets, as diamonds can scratch other metals and gemstones. Necklaces should be fastened before storing to minimise tangling. What to Avoid While solid gold is made to be worn every day, a few precautions can help preserve its finish: Remove jewellery before heavy lifting, gardening, or high-impact activities. Avoid exposure to harsh household cleaning products. Remove rings before swimming in chlorinated pools. Apply perfumes, lotions, and beauty products before putting on jewellery. Be mindful when wearing jewellery to the gym, beach, or during manual work. When to Consider a Professional Polish Over time, your jewellery may develop surface marks from daily wear. This is completely normal and part of the character of solid gold.  If you'd like to restore its original finish, a professional polish can refresh the surface and bring back its shine. Many clients choose to have frequently worn pieces polished every few years, depending on wear. Image Source: Pinterest When to Get Your Ring Resized Your fingers can change over time due to lifestyle, seasons, and life stages. If your ring feels consistently too tight, too loose, or spins excessively on the finger, it may be time to consider a resize. A properly fitting ring should slide comfortably over the knuckle while feeling secure during everyday wear. Designed to Last At RUUSK, we create modern heirlooms intended to be worn through every chapter of life. With thoughtful care and occasional maintenance, your jewellery can continue to tell your story for generations to come.

HOW TO CHOOSE AN ENGAGEMENT RING

HOW TO CHOOSE AN ENGAGEMENT RING

Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most meaningful decisions you'll make. Long after the proposal, the celebrations, and the wedding day itself, the ring remains. It becomes part of everyday life. A symbol of your commitment, a reminder of your story, and often the first heirloom of a new generation. With so many styles, stones, and settings to consider, knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming. The good news is that there is no single "perfect" engagement ring. The right ring is simply the one that feels most like you, or your partner.   Start With Your Personal Style Your engagement ring should feel like an extension of you. Something you'll reach for every day, wear through every season of life, and still love decades from now. So, before considering diamond shapes, carat sizes, or setting styles, take a moment to reflect on what you naturally gravitate towards. As you begin your design journey, ask yourself: Do I gravitate towards timeless classics or contemporary designs? Do I prefer jewellery that feels delicate and understated, or bold and sculptural? Am I drawn to soft organic forms or clean architectural lines? Do I typically wear yellow gold, white gold, or a mix of both? Do I want my ring to feel traditional, unique, or somewhere in between? Am I designing for everyday wear, statement appeal, or a balance of both? Are there meaningful details I'd like to incorporate, such as an heirloom stone, engraving, or sentimental design element? The answers to these questions often provide a clearer starting point than trends ever can. The most meaningful engagement rings are those that feel deeply personal to the person wearing them. Choosing a Diamond Shape The centre stone shape has one of the biggest influences on the overall look and feel of an engagement ring. While there are no rules, each shape carries its own character and aesthetic. Oval – Elegant, romantic, and universally flattering. Loved for its elongated silhouette and timeless appeal with a contemporary softness. Round Brilliant – The ultimate classic. Renowned for its exceptional sparkle and enduring beauty, making it a favourite for traditional romantics. Emerald Cut – Refined and architectural. Defined by clean lines and understated sophistication, perfect for those drawn to minimalist design. Pear – Romantic with a distinctive edge. Combining softness and individuality, pear-shaped diamonds offer something a little unexpected. Radiant – Bold, bright, and contemporary. Strong geometric lines meet exceptional brilliance for a look that feels modern yet timeless. Asscher – Vintage-inspired and quietly striking. Its stepped facets and symmetrical shape appeal to lovers of old-world elegance. Cushion – Soft, romantic, and timeless. Characterised by rounded corners and a pillowy silhouette, cushion-cut diamonds blend vintage charm with enduring appeal. Princess – Modern, confident, and brilliantly bright. Defined by its sharp corners and exceptional sparkle. Ultimately, the shape that resonates most is often the right choice. Trust your instincts and choose the stone that feels most aligned with your personal style and the story you wish to tell.   Consider the Band While the diamond often takes centre stage, the band plays an equally important role in the overall character of your ring, and its durability. A fine band creates a delicate and refined appearance, allowing the centre stone to take focus. It does however, require more regular maintenance depending on the size of your chosen stone and lifestyle. Meanwhile, a wider or more sculptural band introduces presence and individuality, creating a statement that feels distinctly modern and is incredibly durable. The setting itself can also dramatically influence the look and wearability of your ring. A higher setting can elevate the diamond and create a more traditional, prominent appearance, while a lower-profile setting often feels more contemporary and sits closer to the hand. If you lead an active lifestyle or work with your hands regularly, a lower setting offers greater practicality for everyday wear. The most memorable rings often strike a balance between timelessness and personal expression. This is where the RUUSK team can help guide you.    How to Find Your Ring Size Finding the right size is an important part of the process, particularly if you're purchasing online or keeping the proposal a secret. If you're planning together, we recommend purchasing a RUUSK Ring Sizer to ensure the most accurate fit from the beginning. If the proposal is a surprise, a ring already worn on the opposite ring finger can often be measured as a guide. And remember, resizing is often possible after the proposal if needed.    Seeing Rings in Person Photographs are a wonderful starting point, but nothing compares to experiencing a ring in person. The way a diamond catches the light. The scale of a stone on the hand. The weight and feel of a band. These details are difficult to fully appreciate in a handful of images.  A studio appointment allows you to explore different shapes, settings, and proportions while receiving personalised guidance from our team. Together, we can help you navigate the options, answer questions, and refine what feels right for you. For those unable to visit us in person, our team is always available via email to provide recommendations and guide you through the process from afar. We can provide more details videos and imagery to give you an experience that feels as close to a studio appointment as possible.  Begin Your Journey Choosing an engagement ring is a deeply personal process. Whether you're drawn to a timeless solitaire, a sentimental trilogy ring, or a bespoke design created entirely from scratch, the right ring is the one that feels unmistakably yours. Explore our Engagement Ring Collection, reach out to our team, or book a Studio Appointment to discover the design that will accompany your story for years to come.

SOLID GOLD VS GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

SOLID GOLD VS GOLD PLATED JEWELLERY: WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Not all gold jewellery is created equal. At first glance, solid gold and gold plated jewellery can similar. The difference lies beneath the surface, and it's a difference that impacts how your jewellery wears, lasts, and ultimately holds its value over time. What Is Solid Gold? Solid gold jewellery is made from gold all the way through. While gold is often alloyed with other metals for strength, the gold content remains part of the material itself, not simply a surface coating. This means your jewellery can be worn, polished, resized, repaired, and treasured for decades to come. In short: solid gold is designed to last, and holds it's value. What Is Gold Plated Jewellery? Gold plated jewellery starts with a base metal, often brass, copper, or sterling silver, which is coated with a very thin layer of gold. The gold sits only on the surface. While plated jewellery can be a more accessible option upfront, the coating naturally wears away over time through everyday contact with skin, water, friction, lotions, and perfumes. Once the plating wears off, the base metal underneath becomes visible. Why Does Gold Plating Wear Off? Because plating is exactly that: a coating. No matter how carefully it is worn, the gold layer will gradually fade through daily use. Rings, bracelets, and frequently worn pieces tend to show wear the fastest because they experience the most friction. Eventually, plated jewellery requires re-plating to restore its appearance. A Quick Comparison of Solid Gold and Gold Plating Solid Gold Gold Plated Gold throughout Thin gold coating over base metal Designed to last decades Coating wears away over time Can be polished and restored Requires re-plating Suitable for everyday wear Better suited to occasional wear Holds long-term value Low to no long-term value Future heirloom potential Temporary by nature Can be melted down and re-cast Cannot be recycled Why We Only Create in Solid Gold At RUUSK, we believe jewellery should become part of your story. We create pieces to celebrate engagements, anniversaries, birthdays, new chapters, and the special moments in between. These are not temporary milestones, so we don't believe the jewellery marking them should be temporary either. Solid gold allows us to create modern heirlooms – pieces that can be worn every day, evolve with their owner, and one day be passed on to the next generation. Because when something is designed to last a lifetime, what's beneath the surface matters. Learn more about solid gold jewellery and why we choose it here.

HOW TO STYLE A SIGNET RING

HOW TO STYLE A SIGNET RING

Few jewellery pieces are as timeless and versatile as the signet ring. Once reserved for family crests and personal seals, today's signets have evolved into modern heirlooms, worn as expressions of personal style, milestones, memories, and identity. Whether worn alone or layered with your existing collection, there are no strict rules when it comes to styling a signet. The most beautiful approach is often the one that feels most authentic to you. Which Finger Should You Wear a Signet Ring On? Some of our favourite styling approaches include: Pinky finger: A classic and understated choice. Index finger: Creates a bold, contemporary statement. Middle finger: Balanced, architectural and practical. Ring finger: Particularly meaningful when worn alongside wedding jewellery. Ultimately, the best finger is the one that feels most comfortable and complements your existing pieces. Which Hand Should You Wear It On? Many choose to wear their signet on the opposite hand to their engagement or wedding rings, creating balance across both hands. Others prefer to stack multiple meaningful pieces on one hand for a more layered, collected look. The beauty of signets lies in their versatility. They can feel equally refined worn alone or integrated into an existing ring collection. Styling Signets with Engagement and Wedding Rings Signets pair beautifully with bridal jewellery, particularly for those who love a more personal and layered aesthetic. The contrast between sculptural signet forms and delicate diamond rings creates a look that feels both modern and timeless. A few combinations we love: A signet worn on the opposite hand to an engagement ring. A slim signet paired with a wedding band stack. A personalised signet engraved with initials, dates, or meaningful symbols alongside sentimental rings. Increasingly, couples are also choosing signets as engagement rings or wedding bands. For those drawn to understated design, symbolism, and individuality, a signet offers a distinctive alternative to more traditional bridal styles.    Choosing the Right Metal When selecting a signet, consider both your existing jewellery collection and your personal colouring. Yellow Gold Warm, rich, and timeless. Often complements warmer skin tones beautifully. Ideal for those who predominantly wear gold jewellery. White Gold Crisp and contemporary. Often suits cooler skin tones. Pairs seamlessly with diamond engagement rings and wedding bands. That said, personal preference should always lead. Some of the most striking jewellery collections intentionally mix metals and embrace contrast. Men's and Women's Signet Styling While signets have historically been associated with men's jewellery, today they are worn by everyone. At RUUSK, we often see signets commissioned to celebrate anniversaries, graduations, parenthood, milestone birthdays, and personal achievements. They become markers of a moment, carrying meaning long after the occasion has passed. Our Favourite Signet Styles Explore some of our most-loved designs: Horizon Signet Hand Engraved Large Classic Signet Tiny Signet Monte Signets Sun Signet Whether engraved, set with gemstones, or left beautifully simple, a signet ring is more than an accessory. It is a piece that gathers meaning over time, becoming part of your story and eventually, part of your legacy.

SUSTAINABILITY AT RUUSK: A COMMITMENT BEYOND THE JEWELLERY

Sustainability has been part of RUUSK since the very beginning. For us, sustainability and luxury have never been in conflict. Rather, it is a lens through which we source, create, and thoughtfully design every piece. We are committed to mindful practices and continually seek new ways to reduce our impact and give back to the beautiful world we call home. By manufacturing locally, we support skilled artisans while creating jewellery intended to be treasured for a lifetime and beyond. Made to Order Nothing sits in a stockroom waiting to be purchased. Every piece is made specifically for its future custodian, eliminating excess inventory and ensuring each design is crafted with intention from the very beginning. Responsibly Sourced Materials We use recycled gold wherever possible, and all diamonds are ethically sourced in accordance with the Kimberley Process. More than 90% of our diamond and gemstone suppliers are Australian businesses, allowing us to support local industry while maintaining close relationships with our supply chain. Offsetting What We Cannot Yet Eliminate We proudly partner with Regenerate Australia to offset our studio's monthly carbon footprint and plant a tree for every order placed, contributing to the regeneration of Australian landscapes for future generations. Slow by Design We embrace traditional jewellery-making practices not out of nostalgia, but because exceptional craftsmanship takes time. By prioritising quality over speed, we create modern heirlooms designed to be worn, loved, and passed down for generations.

A GUIDE TO CHAMPAGNE DIAMONDS

A GUIDE TO CHAMPAGNE DIAMONDS

Soft, warm, and quietly distinctive, champagne diamonds have become a favourite among those seeking an alternative to the traditional white diamond. Their rich golden hues offer a sense of individuality while retaining the timeless beauty and durability diamonds are known for. For many, a champagne diamond feels less about convention and more about personal expression. What Is a Champagne Diamond? A champagne diamond is a natural diamond that displays warm tones ranging from soft honey and golden caramel through to deeper cognac hues. Unlike white diamonds, which are valued for their lack of colour, champagne diamonds are celebrated for their natural colour. These tones occur during the diamond's formation deep within the earth, creating a unique stone with warmth, depth, and character. No two champagne diamonds are exactly alike, making each stone feel deeply individual. Understanding Champagne Diamond Colour Champagne diamonds are typically graded based on the intensity of their colour. Lighter champagne diamonds often display delicate golden undertones, while darker stones take on richer shades of caramel, amber, and cognac. The right tone comes down to personal preference. Some are drawn to the subtle warmth of lighter stones, while others love the depth and moodiness of deeper champagne hues. What unites them all is their ability to feel both timeless and unexpected.   Are Champagne Diamonds Durable? Absolutely. Champagne diamonds are real diamonds and share the same physical properties as traditional white diamonds. They rank 10 on the Mohs Hardness Scale, making them one of the hardest natural materials on earth. With the beauty of a coloured gemstone with the resilience of a diamond, champagne diamonds are an excellent choice for engagement rings and everyday jewellery designed to be worn for a lifetime.  Why Champagne Diamonds Pair So Beautifully with Gold One of the reasons we love champagne diamonds at RUUSK is the way they complement warm precious metals. Yellow gold enhances the golden undertones within the stone, creating a rich and harmonious palette that feels both contemporary and timeless. The combination has a softness that many clients are drawn to, particularly those seeking a less traditional engagement ring. The result is a piece that feels warm, romantic, and effortlessly wearable. Champagne Diamonds at RUUSK Champagne diamonds feature throughout many of our bespoke commissions and signature designs, often chosen by clients looking for a stone that feels uniquely their own. Their versatility allows them to feel equally at home in contemporary settings and future heirlooms. Finding the Right Champagne Diamond Every champagne diamond has its own unique tone, character, and personality. Seeing different colours, cuts, and settings in person is often the best way to discover what resonates with you. If you're considering a champagne diamond for an engagement ring, bespoke commission, or future heirloom, we invite you to email our team enquiries@ruusk.com or book a studio consultation. Together, we can help you explore the possibilities and find a stone that feels unmistakably yours.

LOVE ACROSS GENERATIONS: THE PIECES WE INHERIT, THE STORIES WE KEEP

LOVE ACROSS GENERATIONS: THE PIECES WE INHERIT, THE STORIES WE KEEP

There is a quiet kind of love that moves through generations. It does not announce itself loudly, nor does it demand attention. Instead, it reveals itself in the objects we keep close – the pieces carefully placed in velvet boxes, worn smooth by time, and passed from one pair of hands to another. Jewellery has always carried this language of continuity. A ring worn daily becomes shaped by the life it accompanies. A pendant gathers memories with every milestone. These pieces become more than adornment; they become markers of presence – reminders of those who came before us, and of the lives that continue because of them. "There is something grounding in selecting jewellery designed to remain – to accompany us through years of change, celebration and growth, and to one day pass on to continue the legacy."   To inherit a piece of jewellery is to inherit a story. It may remind you of a grandmother who never took off her gold bangle, a parent who marked an occasion with something meaningful, or a moment when love was made tangible through an object chosen with care. These pieces hold memory in a way few things can. They are worn not just for beauty, but for connection – to people, to moments, to legacy.     And while heirlooms often arrive from the past, they are just as much about the future. Because legacy is not built in a single moment. It is built slowly – through rituals, relationships, and the objects that remain constant as life evolves. The heirlooms of tomorrow are the pieces we choose today. To create a personal collection of modern heirlooms is to participate in this continuum. It is a conscious act of choosing permanence in a world that often feels temporary. These pieces will gather their own narratives over time: the years they were worn, the hands they passed through, the lives they touched. Eventually, they will no longer be defined by when they were purchased, but by everything that has happened since. Our new Legacy Collection is an invitation to begin (or continue) that story. To choose pieces not only for how they look now, but for the lives they will accompany, the memories they will hold, and the generations they will one day connect.
