Danny & Phoebe's Boulder Beach Proposal

When Danny came to RUUSK wanting to create a very special engagement ring for Phoebe, we were so excited to make such a meaningful piece for them. Planning to propose around Phoebe's birthday, Danny organised a trip away for the two of them to Lennox Heads. So we were thrilled to hear she said YES and their proposal story had us smiling from ear to ear... How did you meet? We first met when Danny was working at the film school I attended but didn’t have much to do with each other at the time. A couple of years later we worked on a film together and became friends. A mutual friend of ours tried to set us up but it took Danny another 6 months to ask me out under the guise of working together on a music video.  Where was your first date? For our first proper date Danny drove us out to Lake Moogerah and we had a picnic under the stars. We ate some delicious food and watched a movie. Danny took a little time-lapse while we were there which is so cool to have of our first date. Danny, how did you propose?  We had arranged to go away for a few nights at Lennox Head for Phoebes birthday and then come home to celebrate with all her family. We had talked about getting engaged for a while but I had Phoebe convinced it wasn’t going to happen this year. So I had the ring delivered to Phoebe's Dad to keep it a surprise!  I was pretty keen to ask her as soon as possible so on the afternoon we arrived in Lennox I organised for us to go down to the headland at Boulder Beach and have a sunset picnic. I was behaving pretty awkwardly so I think she totally knew what was coming but once we were set up and just as the sun was setting I told her how much I loved her and then asked her to marry me and she said yes! What did you love most about your special moment? I loved that it was perfectly suited to us. We go and watch the sunset most afternoons and we both enjoy a picnic so I love that it was both of those things combined. It was also great to keep the news to ourselves for a couple of days and spend the time relaxing at the beach with just the two of us. It was so cool to come home a few days later and surprise my family - their reaction was amazing!  Phoebe, what do you love most about your ring? I love everything about my ring. I’d given Danny a few hints on the sort of styles I liked and the one he chose is perfect. We already love our life together and appreciate it every day. We are both really excited to continue to grow a life full of adventure, family, love and plenty more sunset picnics.   

Moissanite, gemstone born from the stars

Moissanite Solitaire using our 1ct Diamond Solitaire Ring Shape In 1893, Nobel-Prize winning scientist Henri Moissan began studying fragments of a meteorite in Diablo Canyon, Arizona. In these fragments, Dr. Moissan discovered minute quantities of a shimmering new mineral, with fire and brilliance never before seen on earth. Thinking he had discovered diamonds, it wasn’t after extensive research that Dr Moissan concluded this new mineral was made of silicon carbide. This mineral is now what we call moissanite, named in Dr Moissan’s honour. Due to moissanite’s extraterrestrial origins (it is literally a gemstone born from the stars!), moissanite is thought to encourage a better connection to the rest of the universe. Known to bring luck into people’s lives, awake hidden potential and push individuals to finish their goals, moissanite captures the essence and beauty of a star from far far away. Because natural moissanite is incredibly rare, almost all moissanite on the current market has been laboratory-created. This makes them highly appealing for those seeking an eco-conscious gemstone as they require no mining, have a smaller carbon footprint and result in less environmental impact. Additionally, as a moissanite requires far less labour than a clear diamond, they are more affordable than diamonds making them an attractive and beautiful diamond alternative. This makes moissanite an excellent choice for individuals who want the look of a large diamond but are more price conscious. Moissanite scores a 9.25 on the Mohs scale, a very good score that makes it the second-hardest gemstone. Due to its sturdy and durable features, this gem is highly suitable for everyday wear. While diamonds are graded on Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat (4 C’s), moissanites are graded solely on colour. Because they are grown in laboratories, they don’t feature any inclusions contained in nearly all diamonds. Primarily ‘colourless’ moissanites can sometimes project a yellowish or yellow-green hue in certain lights. Usually, the larger the moissanite, the more noticeable the colour. Additionally, moissanite have a heightened brilliance which will shimmer and shine under even the most dull of lights. Exhibiting fiery, rainbow flashes in the sun, moissanite is preferred by many because of their brilliance. And have no fear, a moissanite won’t lose their shine - you can wear it all the time and it won’t change its appearance at all. EMERALD CARE

Emeralds are a gorgeous and rich addition to any piece of jewellery, but it is important to understand that they require a little more care and attention than your other gemstones. As emeralds are a softer, more delicate variety of stone, they often have surface reaching inclusions. As a result, they are not only more susceptible to scratches, but they are particularly prone to chipping or cracking when knocked, which can result in the stone loosening and falling out of the setting. This means that emeralds require more loving care from their wearer.  Here are some ways to keep your favourite emerald shimmering for a lifetime: Be sure to remove your jewellery before doing anything laborious. Taking your rings off before the gym or doing household chores will help protect your emerald from unnecessary hits. Avoid exposing your emerald to extreme temperatures. Heat can damage emeralds as it can extend existing fractures. Be careful about continuous exposure to sunlight as the light can destroy oil treatments or discolour or deteriorate your emerald. When storing your emerald jewellery, store it securely in your RUUSK box so it cannot hit against other jewellery or hard surfaces.   Never clean your emerald ultrasonically or with steam: ultrasonic vibrations could weaken already-fractured stones and hot steam causes oil or unhardened resin to sweat out of fractures. RUUSK Couples: Albert & Lidya

Rain, hail or shine Albert and Lidya were not letting their wedding day slip away. Surrounded by their closest friends and hundreds of family via Facebook, their Virtual outdoor wedding at Greycliff Gardens at the top of Vaucluse Bay, proved that love always wins. Albert chose our 4mm Square Ring and Lidya the XS Organic ring married together with 'Albert & Lidya 2020' engraved.  What are your star signs? Albert is a Scorpio and Lidya is a Gemini Where was your first date? We have loved photography since we were just friends. The chemistry developed naturally and more clearly every day, just like when you develop film strips. Describe each other in three words. Lidya is Cute, Loving, and Selfless Albert is Sweet, Wise, and Funny Where did you get married? We got married in The Greycliffe Gardens, it is situated on top of a hill next to the Vaucluse Bay What did you love most about your wedding? We love the fact that it was a Virtual Wedding in the rain. Even though our parents couldn't make it because of the pandemic, it was very moving to witness our friends and families getting drenched to help with the wedding setup and logistics. It was a surreal feeling to exchange our vows in that atmosphere, knowing hundreds of people were watching our humble wedding LIVE, and at the same time, acknowledging that the few people in the location sacrificed their comfort to make sure we were having the best day of our lives. We would never trade this with anything else. What do you love most about your rings, how did you find your experience with RUUSK? I really like the finish, it has the perfect amount of shine. It has proportionate engravings and I love that it has some weight to it. I've been searching for a handmade ring and my ring is exactly how I wanted it to be.  I love the shape of mine, it looks delicate and it doesn't look like the rings you can buy from a store. The fact that it is handmade makes it even more special and personal. Jodie and Sarah's wedding has been a story we have been wanting to share. An intimate setting filled with all of their favourite people, at the beautiful Lakehouse in Daylesford.  We had the pleasure of creating Jodie's special Oval Signet with Baguette Diamond engagement ring, along with a Classic Signet with hand engraving for her wedding band.  What are your star signs? Jodie is a Cancer and Sarah is Capricorn Where was your first date? Both of my rings represent who I am as a person, very individual and very different. I loved my wedding ring because it represents me but also the new family Sarah and I have created. And I love my engagement ring because it was such a unique gift from Sarah. Surrounded by all their family, friends and breathtaking views, Pip and Ed celebrated their love at the Allview Escape in the Blue Mountains. With a magical tepee set up, it was a day full of stand out moments.  Pip's engagement ring stack featured our most treasured pieces; XS Square Ring, Tiny Diamond Signet Ring, Thin Organic Ring and a bespoke Above Diamond Ring. My brother was the MC, my twin sister and my dad spoke, as did Ed's two brothers. It was fun and meaningful since both of us had input into the process - we left and didn't look anywhere else!  What excites you most about life together?  There's still so much we have to learn (and love) about each other and we're excited to grow and change together. There's a level of intrigue in what the future may bring for us ... whether it's our careers, where we'll end up living, starting a family, going into business together, traveling. Describing Charlotte as creative, caring and compassionate; Charlotte married Luke at the Cottesloe Civic Centre in Perth with an intimate crowd of thirty family members. Despite the disruptions to their original wedding plans, Charlotte and Luke are testament that Love always wins, deciding to proceed with a very special 3-part wedding celebration.  Luke proposed to Charlotte with a high polished Supernova and tied the knot with a stunning bespoke Diamond Luna ring. What are your star signs? Gemini & Leo Where was your first date? Inglewood Food Markets What did you love most about your wedding? We loved and hated that this was 3 part COVID-19 wedding. Part 1: We had a relaxed and intimidate paper signing ceremony with our parents. Luke's Dad decided to get the sausage rolls out of the oven half way into it. Part 2: We a had 30 (Covid-19 restricted) family members attend our Tuscan vibe ceremony at the Cottesloe Civic Centre.  Part 3: We are having the big reception party in February next year with all of our friends and family. What do you love most about your rings, how did you find your experience with RUUSK? We have always had an amazing experience with Tania and her team at RUUSK. We love her chunky gold rings, unique and original designs. Her customer services always goes above and beyond to please. RUUSK Couples: Jaimie & Kane

Describing Jaimie as compassionate, clumsy and loveable, Kane and Jaimie said 'I do' at the Woods Farm in Jervis Bay surrounded by family and friends over a special three day wedding event.   Jamie chose our stunning Diamond Crest Ring &  Kane opted for a 6.5mm Square Ring with 2mm Black diamond. What are your star signs? Scorpio & Virgo Where was your first date? So we actually met in Kindergarten and were best friends all through primary school (we had a little crush on each other, went to our year 6 farewell with each other etc). But our first ‘proper’ date was a bottle of wine and take away thai on my lounge at home. What did you love most about your wedding? We had a 3 day wedding. Dinner & drinks in the fairy garden on the Friday night, wedding on Saturday and brunch by the pool on Sunday. What do you love most about your rings, how did you find your experience with RUUSK? I have quite a ‘common’ style engagement ring (pear shape) . So I really wanted my wedding band to be something unique that was special to me. Tania was so easy to work with and I am totally obsessed with my wedding band (probably more so than my engagement ring but don’t tell Kane...) As for Kane's ring… he had never worn jewellery before so I thought we were in for a bumpy ride when it came to choosing his ring. Tania was so honest and reassuring. She helped us pick a colour that was suitable to his skin type. I then head to the studio (often via Iggy’s) and then work on new designs, pouring moulds, hand-building forms, and then I head home and have a yummy dinner with my house-mates! Is your design approach intuitive or measured? How so?: A little bit of both! A lot of working with clay is very intuitive and unplanned, things often turn out unexpected thanks to the unpredictable nature of working with clay. In saying that, I am very organised and measured in all ways I can be in my process of making. I like to have as much control as possible over the things that I can, and let the kiln do the rest!  Where do you draw your creative inspiration from?: The natural world around me, shapes, textures, forms, everything! I think inspiration can’t be pinned onto one thing or moment its my experience of living and what I surround myself with!
